Remote Desktop and the /console switch

In the past, Windows 2003 and Vista would only allow you to connect to the main windows session through Remote Desktop if you used the /console switch when calling mstsc.
However, if you have recently upgraded to Windows XP SP3 or Vista SP1, you might have noticed that even if you pass “/console” switch to terminal server client, it still connects you to a session other than ’session 0′ (console).
The reason for this is that, starting from Windows XP Service Pack 3, Windows Vista Service Pack 1 and Windows Server 2008, M$ has discontinued the “/console” switch as the newer version of Windows, session 0 is no longer connect-able.
But the good news is that you can still connect to session 0 by using a newly introduced switch “/admin”.

Getting DRM files to work with Softick Audio Gateway on Treo

I have a Palm Treo 680.  I recently wanted to listen to an audio book that had to be checked out via my local library.  I had Pocket Tunes installed on my treo but found that the “Bundled” version does not play DRM files. I dutifully purchased the “Deluxe” version of ptunes 4.0.7 that gives me the ability to play the DRM files.  I tried it out and was able to listen to my book.

I ran into a problem, however, when I tried to listen to the audiobook via my bluetooth headphones which routes the stream through Softick’s Audio Gateway product.  When I did this, I got the following error on ptunes:

“The following error(s) occurred during playback:  Unable to initialize the licensing subsystem.  You may have an incompatible application installed on your device.”

The way around this problem is to first start the playback on pocket tunes before starting the audio gateway.  Once it starts, turn on the audio gateway and the audio will transfer to the bluetooth headset.

It is ugly, but until Softick fixes the problem, that may be my only chance.
